What is HONEYCAT jewelry, and why should you get to know them?
If you love delicate jewelry packed with symbolism and meaning, this female-founded brand has all the dainty, minimalist pieces your collection needs.
HONEYCAT jewelry is equally gorgeous worn solo or paired with your favorite rings from Blush and Bar.
But how do their prices and gold quality compare? And what do customers have to say about their purchases?
We’ll explore all these questions and more in this quick HONEYCAT jewelry review.
So let's kick things off by meeting the epic duo behind the brand.
What is HONEYCAT Jewelry?
HONEYCAT is a costume and fine jewelry brand based in Irvine, California, USA. Its two co-founders, Julie and JoAnna, have been besties since they were preteens.
When Julie was running her women’s boutique back in 2013, she could never find high-quality yet affordable jewelry for her fashion-savvy customers. She either had to stock $400 necklaces priced way over budget or $8 necklaces made of mediocre materials lacking longevity.
So Julie called JoAnna, her “partner in crime,” and brainstormed ways to find the affordable, high-quality pieces missing in today's jewelry market. Cue HONEYCAT's entrance.
The two ladies made it their mission to curate a “meaningful selection” of dainty jewelry at sensible prices. They built HONEYCAT on the belief that everyone should feel pretty every day without chasing fleeting fashion trends or spending a fortune to do so.
“Like a layer of mascara or perfume, we hope putting on a piece of our jewelry becomes a staple part of your morning routine.”
- Jo & Julie, HONEYCAT Co-Founders
Where to Buy HONEYCAT Jewelry
You can shop for delicate, minimalist HONEYCAT jewelry on the brand’s dedicated website, ETSY storefront (HONEYCATus), and Amazon Store.
HONEYCAT also operates a separate website portal for wholesale retailers and third-party sellers. So you may come across HONEYCAT pieces in person at your fave local boutiques.
Is HONEYCAT Jewelry High Quality?
HONEYCAT imports most of its jewelry from China and South Korea, with a small selection of pieces made in the USA.
Jo and Julie believe their jewelry “looks way more than it costs” and sits somewhere between high quality costume jewelry and fine jewelry. According to the founders, they use the best materials possible “within the fashion jewelry price range.”
That means HONEYCAT jewelry is free of lousy materials like lead and nickel, which can cause allergic reactions for those with sensitive skin.
But as far as quality goes, HONEYCAT pieces fall into two categories: plated brass and solid gold.
Plated Brass Jewelry: Pretty and Affordable, But Risky
Most HONEYCAT jewelry is made of brass, a metal composed primarily of copper and zinc. It’s substantially more affordable than gold or sterling silver. However, brass can tarnish and turn your skin and jewelry green on its own.
That’s why HONEYCAT adds a thick, protective coating to their brass pieces. This anti-tarnish finish ensures your jewellery stays shiny longer, and it’s also safe for sensitive skin types.
HONEYCAT brass jewelry comes in four finishes:
18k gold plated brass. Enjoy the look of solid gold without the golden price tag. Gold-plated pieces are the perfect shade of yellow and not too subdued.
18k rose gold plated brass. To achieve a pink metal finish, 4% silver is added to 75% gold and 21% copper. Pieces shine in a trendy, gorgeous rose color.
Sterling silver plated brass. Bright, white sterling silver over brass gives you the look of sterling silver for a fraction of solid silver pieces.
Rhodium plated brass. Rhodium offers vibrant color and durability. However, it’s one of the costliest precious metals because it’s so rare. Plating rhodium over brass lowers the cost because a manufacturer needs less of it.
So, will HONEYCAT jewelry tarnish?
You should keep all plated jewelry away from water, sweat, cleaning agents, antibac, beauty products, perfume, and other daily evils that may eat away at the finish. Once the plating wears down, your pieces may start tarnishing, discoloring, dulling, or turning your skin green.
But you won’t have that problem when it comes to their solid gold jewelry.
14k Solid Gold and Rose Gold Make a Forever Jewelry Piece
Solid gold jewelry is made to last forever. It doesn’t tarnish, sparkles for years, and is perfect for all skin types. You can actually sleep, work out, and even shower in your fave solid gold pieces.
But this forever love comes at a higher price point. Solid gold HONEYCAT rings range from $52 to $152. A whisper-thin gold bracelet will set you back $62. Earrings cost between $64 and $192. And gold necklaces vary from $108 to $188.
Sterling Forever carries delicate bracelets with sterling silver charms, cuffs, bangles, bolos, and stretch bracelets. Each Sterling Forever bracelet runs between $40 to $150.
Though you can't customize a charm bracelet like Pandora, you will find options to suit a wide range of personalities.
Let’s Shop the HONEYCAT Brand!
Julie and Jo say HONEYCAT is a symbolism-inspired jewelry company.
You can browse HONEYCAT pieces by type, new arrivals, sale, or by specific models in their online lookbook. Once you click on the product info, you can change the finish to see what each piece will look like in yellow gold, rose gold, or sterling silver.
HONEYCAT also groups specific pieces together in a collection by artist and theme, such as:
The Magic Charms Collection, which features dainty charms thoughtfully designed for HONEYCAT by artist Carolyn Kim. Each piece comes with a playful tarot card to explain the symbolism behind each icon.
You can mix and match different good luck charms or deck yourself out in a set of matching earrings, ring, and necklace with the same symbol. Prices in the Magic Charms Collection range from $24 to $26.
The Chinese Zodiac Collection features one-of-a-kind artwork designed for HONEYCAT by artist Gisela Talita.
These necklaces highlight one of the twelve animals that make up the Chinese zodiac (pictured here).
Each Chinese zodiac necklace comes in either yellow gold, rose gold, or silver plating and costs $34.
The Wishing Crystals Collection contains pieces inspired by the energy of crystals and birthstones such as opal, amethyst, and aquamarine. Each ring, earring, necklace, and bracelet is “infused with good vibes and lots of love.” You can wear these good intentions or give them as stunning personalized presents.
Expect to budget between $18 for a solitaire ring with one AAA-rated cubic zirconia crystal and $26 for a pair of wishing crystal hoop earrings (or necklace) featuring one of 12 different natural stones and crystals to choose from.
HONEYCAT jewelry is packaged in a unique envelope box or gold-foil embossed jewelry box, which makes a perfect gift for yourself or someone special.
So now that you know more about what HONEYCAT sells, you’re probably curious about what customers have to say about their jewelry pieces.
HONEYCAT does not allow customers to leave reviews about their purchases on their website. But you can read reviews on the brand’s Etsy and Amazon pages to get a feel for the quality of their pieces.
HONEYCAT’s Etsy page has 3,042 sales and a high overall star rating. Customers appreciate the minimalist design of their pieces, the low prices, and the dainty yet sturdy quality.
On Amazon, HONEYCAT’s classic mood ring (featuring a color changing mood stone) boasts the most reviews (over 1,000!). While 74% of customers award the ring a 5-star rating, others complain about the limited ring size offerings (they’re only available in sizes 5 through 9).
Unfortunately, when you read through negative reviews for this HONEYCAT ring and other pieces, many customers say the quality of their jewelry could be better. It’s common to hear about stones falling out, chipped plating, and bracelets/necklaces breaking within a few wears.
And here’s a little secret: HONEYCAT does not offer a jewelry warranty or guarantee.
Aside from the pricier solid gold collection, HONEYCAT jewelry is made of brass, which is susceptible to tarnishing once the plating wears off. If you notice your jewelry turning colors or lose a stone, you'll have to replace it on your own dime.
Blush and Bar rings are made out of stamped 925 Sterling Silver (a much higher quality precious metal). We then double coat our pieces with a thick layer of 18 k gold to make sure they last.
Most retail stores charge 8 to 10 times the actual cost while Blush and Bar sells directly to you. No stores, cashiers, or middlemen means more savings in your pocket.
