Vitaly was founded in 2011 by Shane Vitaly Foran and Jason Readman. Based in Toronto, Canada, the goal of Vitaly is to produce culturally diverse pieces that interest a broad range of personalities, styles, and people.
Vitaly describes itself as an “experimental design studio.” They produce genderless jewelry and accessories inspired by robotics and industrial manufacturing processes. Founder Shane Vitaly Foran came up with the idea on a trip to Ubud in central Bali. He got a local craftsman to produce concept pieces, and after they proved popular, Vitaly was born.
Today, Vitaly focuses on medical-grade, 100% recycled stainless steel jewelry. This means that their stainless steel jewelry will not tarnish, rust, or cause discoloration on your skin. With their focus on futuristic, mechanical designs, Vitaly likes to point out that much of their recycled steel will have come from car parts, skyscrapers, and other urban derelicts.
Over the last ten years in business, Vitaly has changed its catalog and market direction multiple times. Currently, Vitaly focuses on stainless steel accessories and jewelry, including:
Eyewear - Vitaly sells their “Matrix” sunglasses that are available in three styles.
Pendants - Vitaly has over ten pendant designs available on their website, with most in robotic and almost cyberpunk designs.
Chains - Chain design is one of the main accessories that Vitaly produces. Ranging from bulky designs that appear as traditionally “men’s jewelry” to intricately woven links to more dainty pieces—Vitaly has a bit of everything.
Rings - This is where the bulk of Vitaly’s online store is concentrated. Vitaly has dozens of ring designs ranging from minimalist to intricate and futuristic.
Bracelets - As with their chain designs, Vitaly has a range of innovative bracelet designs.
Earrings - At the time of writing, there are nine available earring styles, each offering something unique.
All of their designs, as we’ve mentioned, are inspired by the industrial manufacturing process. There are chain links that resemble bike chains, earrings designed after barbed-wire fences, and rings that bend over the top of your knuckle like an exoskeleton.
As with most jewelry vendors, Vitaly has its own website with an integrated store. You can browse and buy from their catalog in one place. And, at the time of writing, Vitaly is offering a 15% discount if you subscribe to their newsletter!
Vitaly jewelry is also available from various online marketplaces (including, of course, Amazon.com) and some brick-and-mortar locations such as Myer.
How’s their return policy?
Vitaly offers a lifetime warranty on their jewelry which covers any manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover damage that occurs out of normal wear and tear, and the warranty is only in place if you buy directly from Vitaly—not from a third-party vendor.
If you seek a return within seven days, Vitaly will send out a return label. After this period, you will have to handle the cost of shipping yourself.
What do customers think about Vitaly?
On their website, the majority of their products have received a 5-star rating. Though many only have a couple of reviews, this is a promising outlook. The reviews often mention fast shipping, helpful customer service, and great quality.
Reviews on Trustpilot.com, however, tell a more mixed story. Here, there’s an average rating of 3.1 out of 5 stars, and 46% of reviews indicate a bad customer experience. Reviews are almost tied between five stars and one star, with some people claiming great products and excellent customer service while others complain of terrible customer service.
The main complaint appears to be with Vitaly’s return policy and having to pay shipping (as well as, potentially, a handling fee for returning a product).
Is Vitaly for you?
The futuristic and mechanically inspired designs that Vitaly features are not for everyone. But Vitaly’s success over the last ten years proves that there’s a huge market for this style—now more than ever.
The fact that they produce genderless and sustainable jewelry is also a massive tick for Vitaly.
With recycled stainless steel as their primary material, you can be sure that you have a much smaller carbon footprint when you purchase their jewelry. And, it ties into the whole industrial theme of the jewelry, too!
